Meet Raye, the Rising Brit Singer with the Rose Gold Curls

With her glowing golden skin, sculpted features, and a thicket of rose gold spirals trailing behind her at all times, Raye's presence is as unmistakable as her genre-blurring sound. The 19-year-old up-and-comer, born to a Ghanaian-Swiss mother and English father in Croydon, South London, has been been making waves on the British music scene with her buttery soft vocals and pop-laced R&B hooks. And just as quickly, she has cultivated a signature high-octane beauty look.

Like a '90s club kid, the "I, U, Us" singer is obsessed with shades of neon, often opting for glossy lids in lemon yellow, hot pink, and tangerine. But the definitive crux of her look, her curly mane, is something she had to learn to love. “Growing up, people didn't call my hair curly—they would call it frizzy," she explains. "I had no idea what to do with it, so as soon as I was old enough for my mum to let me start straightening my hair, I was on it,” she explains. Eventually, Raye eased up on the hot tools and began embracing her natural texture with a roster of game-changing curl-enhancing products. After cleansing with Mixed Chicks shampoo, she defines her curls by "drowning" them in Aussie's cult leave-in 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioning Treatment without washing it out, then diffuses. "Once dry, I get some hair gel, anything cheap from a hair shop works, then use a comb to add gel to the roots around the hairline," she says.
